Democratic candidates are widening their lead over Republicans in polling for the upcoming midterm elections, according to recent surveys. Three months before voters head to the polls, Emerson College Polling data shows a consistent upward trend for Democrats.
In March, 49% of likely midterm election voters indicated they planned to support a Democratic candidate, compared to 42% for the Republican candidate. By May, this lead had increased by 2 percentage points. In July, the gap widened further, with 53% of respondents favoring Democrats and 42% supporting Republicans.
This shift in voter preference includes a notable change in economic outlook. For the first time in nearly a decade, a survey found that more respondents prefer the Democratic Party's approach to the economy over the Republican Party's.
