Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) national co-chair Megan Romer has affirmed a wide-ranging agenda that includes abolishing the U.S. Senate, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), prisons, and national borders. Romer's statements, made during an appearance on "Fox News Sunday," underscore deepening ideological rifts within the Democratic Party.

When questioned about the DSA's platform, Romer responded affirmatively to proposals such as abolishing the Senate. She also confirmed the organization's support for replacing the presidency and Supreme Court, ending ICE, eventually eliminating national borders with amnesty for undocumented immigrants, defunding the Pentagon, phasing out prisons, and shifting most large corporations to public ownership. Romer described some of these goals, like border and prison abolition, as part of the DSA's long-term vision.

Explaining the push to eliminate the Senate, Romer characterized it as an "anachronistic institution" designed to limit public influence, drawing a parallel to the British House of Lords. The DSA advocates for a significantly expanded, unicameral legislature.

Romer also defended the DSA's practice of running candidates on the Democratic ballot line, citing the difficulty for third parties to gain ballot access. She stated that the DSA runs as Democrats or independents where feasible, emphasizing that voter choice on the ballot line is paramount.

The DSA co-chair's comments come amid growing concern from some prominent Democrats who argue that the party risks alienating voters by aligning with positions championed by the DSA. Some Democrats have criticized the DSA's agenda as too far-left and out of step with mainstream electoral concerns.
