Democratic Insider Alleges Systemic Racism Within Party

A former insider who fundraised for President Biden’s re-election campaign has detailed what she describes as systemic racism and a transactional political ecosystem within the Democratic Party. Lindy Li, an author and former Democratic operative, asserts that the party exploits identity politics for financial gain, reducing individuals to racial caricatures.

Li recounts her involvement in Asian-American fundraising efforts, stating that in gratitude for her work, the party used her as a "racial caricature." She describes a February 2024 fundraiser where the chair of the Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders Victory Fund, Shekar Narasimhan, posed a question to President Biden that she characterized as a "sycophantic compliment." According to Li, such events were common and served as opportunities for attendees to gain favor and access to politicians and White House invitations.

Li criticizes identity-based organizations, including Black Lives Matter, the NAACP, Latino Victory Fund, Planned Parenthood, Human Rights Campaign, and AAPI Victory Fund, alleging they prioritize enriching their leaders over achieving their stated goals. She claims that in exchange for donations, politicians offer access and photo opportunities, which sustains the executives of these groups while the communities they represent see little improvement.

She further elaborates on this dynamic, stating that events are often priced based on a donor’s desire for access, with significant sums requested for even a brief encounter with political power. The prospect of genuine positive impact, she contends, is secondary.

"Politics has always been pay-to-play," Li writes, "But Democrats have made it their whole ecosystem." She argues that consultants, professional outrage merchants, and corporate DEI officers all profit from issues affecting minority groups while ostensibly working to address them.

Li asserts that Democrats have cloaked financial self-interest in the language of justice, particularly targeting marginalized communities such as minorities, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and first-generation Americans, while excluding white men. She believes this approach, which divides society into narrow identity groups, transforms diversity from a strength into a divisive tool that the party then monetizes.

She draws a parallel between the current Democratic Party’s practices and historical political patronage systems, suggesting that loyalists are now rewarded with consulting contracts, DEI positions, and funds that are "virtue-laundered," rather than public offices.

Li details her own experiences, having been placed on the DNC Ethnic Council in 2016 and approached to join the AAPI Caucus. She felt subjected to racial profiling and grouped with individuals who did not share her concerns, with the party’s focus solely on "pigment and provenance."

In May 2024, Li co-hosted a Biden fundraiser where she was surprised by the appearance of Chinese lion dancers. She states that if she had been consulted, she would have objected, as the dancers did not represent her personal experience or that of many other Asian Americans, who, like her, grew up with Western cultural influences. She criticizes the Democratic National Committee's "obsessive compulsion with race" and their tendency to "other" individuals.

Li suggests that the lion dance spectacle also served to distract from substantive policy discussions. She notes that the display consumed time that could have been used for genuine conversation, leaving guests feeling that they witnessed a spectacle rather than engaging in meaningful dialogue.

She expresses gratitude for her Chinese heritage but emphasizes her efforts to assimilate and become American. Li concludes that the DNC's worldview prevents them from acknowledging this possibility, effectively marginalizing her and others who do not fit their prescribed racial or ethnic molds.
