Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.), who is set to chair the powerful House Oversight Committee, has vowed to investigate Stephen Miller, President Trump's newly appointed chief of staff, just hours after the announcement. Garcia, a Democrat, called Miller "the architect of the unconstitutional ICE raids that have terrorized our communities and kidnapped and killed American citizens and immigrant families."

In a statement, Garcia declared that "Oversight Democrats will continue to investigate Miller for his misconduct, and we will fight against his hateful policies in Congress and the courts." He concluded his remarks by advising Miller to "lawyer up."

Miller's appointment as chief of staff follows the dismissal of Susie Wiles from the position. The change in White House leadership comes after the Republican party's performance in the recent midterm elections.

"Just days after the American people rejected his corrupt and lawless presidency, Donald Trump is doubling down," Garcia stated, criticizing the decision to elevate Miller. Garcia previously made headlines when billionaire Leon Black filed a defamation suit against him over comments regarding Jeffrey Epstein.

Garcia indicated that the committee's focus would include Miller's role in past immigration policies, particularly ICE raids, and pledged to oppose his agenda through legislative and legal means.
