Democrat Representative Linked to Controversial Influencer Under House Investigation

Arizona Representative Yassamin Ansari, a rising figure in the Democratic Party, has reportedly been romantically linked to progressive political influencer Jack Cocchiarella. The relationship has drawn attention due to Cocchiarella's ties to an organization, Chorus, that is currently under investigation by the House Oversight Committee, on which Ansari sits.

Ansari, 34, and Cocchiarella, 24, have not publicly confirmed the status of their relationship, but the organization Cocchiarella co-founded confirmed his departure from its leadership to avoid distractions. Cocchiarella was previously a member of Chorus's Creator Council. The pair reportedly became friends after Ansari appeared on Cocchiarella's YouTube show several months ago, and their relationship allegedly turned romantic shortly thereafter.

Ansari, who serves on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, stated when the news broke that she would not comment on her personal life. She emphasized her focus on legislative priorities, including efforts to pass meaningful legislation and flip the House. Ansari was sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives in 2025, becoming the youngest woman currently serving and the first Iranian American Democrat in Congress. She previously served as Vice Mayor of Phoenix and on the Phoenix City Council.

The House Oversight Committee, chaired by Kentucky Republican Representative James Comer, began investigating Chorus in November after reports that the organization offered influencers up to $8,000 a month to promote Democratic talking points without disclosing their involvement. The committee has accused Chorus of being a 'dark money operation involved in efforts to undermine media ethics standards and circumvent federal campaign finance disclosure laws.' Documents and communications related to Chorus's operations were subpoenaed from the Sixteen Thirty Fund, which is linked to the organization.

Chorus has defended its work, stating that the inquiry is an attempt to intimidate independent news creators and chill speech. The organization maintains it works with creators who inform the public on important issues.

Cocchiarella, a political commentator with over one million YouTube subscribers, has also faced controversy in the past. While a student at Dartmouth, he was accused of sexual assault. He was not subject to criminal charges, and Cocchiarella has denied all allegations, calling them a 'smear campaign.' The allegations were the subject of a civil lawsuit that was later settled. Cocchiarella has since attended Columbia University and has appeared as a cable news commentator.
