Democratic strategist Mike Nellis criticized the Republican Party for not holding its members accountable for serious allegations, drawing parallels between the ongoing scandal involving Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner and accusations against Republican Congressman Max Miller.

Appearing on Fox News' "The Story with Martha MacCallum," Nellis argued that while Democrats must address the issues surrounding Platner, who faces accusations of sexual assault, the Republican Party has a pattern of failing to "police their own."

Nellis specifically cited Rep. Max Miller (R-Ohio), who was accused earlier this year by his wife, Emily Moreno, of "dangerous physical behavior." Miller has denied these accusations, calling them defamatory amid their ongoing divorce proceedings. An ex-girlfriend also accused Miller of physical abuse in 2021.

"I will say though, the Republican Party has not been policing their own," Nellis stated. "I mean, we could talk about Donald Trump and his long dalliances all day."

Conservative podcaster Rich Zeoli, also a guest on the program, interrupted Nellis, questioning the relevance of bringing up Trump. Guest host Trace Gallagher urged Nellis to "stay on topic."

Nellis pushed back, asserting that the issue of party accountability was pertinent. "It’s [Republican Ohio] Congressman Max Miller, who was accused of beating his wife just, like, a month and a half ago — and I haven’t heard a single Republican calling for him to resign," Nellis said.

Zeoli retorted by suggesting Democrats adopt a rule against endorsing candidates with Nazi symbols, referencing Platner's past apology for a skull-and-crossbones tattoo he claimed ignorance of when he got it.

Platner, a former combat veteran, has since had the tattoo covered. Nellis acknowledged the point about Platner's tattoo but reiterated his primary concern about Republican accountability, emphasizing his call for both Miller and Platner to withdraw from their respective races.

"Both need to go," Nellis said, "and that he doesn’t want 'any scumbags' from either party in office."
