Demi Engemann Joins Hulu's 'The Mob,' Citing Desire for New Challenges
Reality star discusses her move from 'The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives' to a new competition series focused on deception.
Demi Engemann, formerly of "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives," has joined the cast of Hulu's new reality competition series, "The Mob." Engemann explained her decision to participate in the show, which shares similarities with "The Traitors," stemmed from a desire to showcase a different facet of her personality and engage with a strategic gameplay element.
"I wanted something that I felt like I could showcase a different side of me. I wanted to lean into the fashion side and more of the game aspect," Engemann told Decider. She expressed excitement about being part of a brand-new show, viewing it as an honor to be trusted alongside other notable cast members like Bruno Tonioli and Harry Jowsey.
"The Mob," produced by Studio Lambert, features contestants competing in challenges and voting to nominate "The Don," the head of the household. Each episode involves "The Don" eliminating a player, with opportunities to earn money throughout the game. In the premiere, Joe Gorga from "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" assumed the role of "The Don" and began distributing money envelopes.
Engemann accepted an envelope from Gorga but was instructed to keep it secret, creating an early challenge in her gameplay. Reflecting on the situation, she admitted that while it was a strategic risk, she was unsure of how else she could have proceeded, especially as one of the first recipients of such an offer. "I thought that that’s just how everyone would play," she said, referring to the perceived power of "The Don."
While Engemann believes the decision to lie about receiving money put a strain on some relationships and led others to question her integrity, she ultimately found the experience rewarding. "I had a blast and made many lasting connections," she stated. "So many amazing relationships came out of it and that’s number one, the number one most important thing for me."
The first two episodes of "The Mob" are currently available on Hulu, with new episodes premiering on Mondays.
