Delta Goodrem Tears Up Over Rib Injury, Set to Return to Strictly Dance Floor
Singer Delta Goodrem shares emotional video detailing her recovery from a fractured rib, expressing relief and gratitude ahead of her dance comeback.
Singer Delta Goodrem has shared an emotional video detailing her recovery from a fractured rib, a week after she was forced to withdraw from last week's "Strictly Come Dancing" competition. Doctors had ordered her to rest, and she received a pass to the next round.
Goodrem, 41, posted the video on Instagram, documenting her progress from hospital visits to her return to rehearsals with professional partner Kai Widdrington. Early clips show her in pain, stating, "This is very painful, praying that this is OK. Feeling a little nauseous from the pain." She later expressed her disappointment, saying, "They explained that it is fracturing my rib, which I feel very, very gutted about." In one segment, she broke down in tears, holding her head in her hands.
The video then shifts to a more positive outlook, showing Goodrem walking and resuming training with Widdrington. She expressed her happiness at being back, telling fans, "I'm so happy to be back."
In a caption accompanying the video, Goodrem reflected on her journey, writing, "I filmed little moments over the past two weeks to remind myself that even on the frustrating days, there would be progress." She added, "I was gutted when the injury happened as I've been truly loving this experience so much. It's hard to be patient when you want to be full force again but I've been listening, taking things carefully and learning to appreciate the small steps!" She concluded with a message of solidarity, "To all my warriors out there in your own battles i see you and am with you – we are fighters! #Teamdeltakai will see you tonight."
"Strictly" confirmed her return to rehearsals on Monday via Instagram, posting a selfie of Goodrem and Widdrington with the caption, "Following her bye last week due to injury, we’re delighted to confirm Delta has been given the all clear to dance again this weekend."
Goodrem had previously topped the leaderboard for two consecutive weeks, most recently performing a Salsa in week three. However, hours after that live broadcast, she was taken to hospital due to the pain, which made it difficult for her to sleep. Doctors advised her to sleep upright to aid recovery.
Strictly Come Dancing's rules allow contestants one "free pass" for an injury before they are required to withdraw. Hosts Emma Willis and Johannes Radebe had acknowledged Goodrem's absence during last week's show, sending her well wishes.
