Delta Goodrem Set to Return to Strictly Dance Floor After Rib Injury
Singer receives all-clear to compete this weekend after missing previous show.
Delta Goodrem is preparing to return to the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom this weekend, following a rib injury that caused her to miss the previous Saturday's live show. The 41-year-old singer was advised by doctors to rest and received a pass through to the next round after the injury prevented her from training.
Strictly confirmed Goodrem's return on Monday, sharing a selfie on Instagram of the singer with her dance partner Kai Widdrington. The post stated, "Following her bye last week due to injury, we’re delighted to confirm Delta has been given the all clear to dance again this weekend. She’ll return to the ballroom on Saturday night."
The Sydney-born star had been performing well in the competition, topping the leaderboard for two consecutive weeks after her Salsa in week three. However, hours after that live broadcast, she sought medical attention due to pain that made sleeping difficult. Doctors recommended rest and sleeping upright to aid her recovery.
Strictly rules allow a contestant one free pass due to injury before they must withdraw. Hosts addressed Goodrem's absence during Saturday's show, with Emma Willis noting it was "such a shame" for her to miss Icon's Week and reiterating that the rules allowed for her continued participation. Johannes Radebe also sent Goodrem well wishes.
Meanwhile, Dame Sarah Storey was the latest contestant to be voted off the show on Sunday night. The judges opted to save Bethany Antonia and her partner Nancy Xu in the dance-off. Storey, Britain's most decorated Paralympian, was partnered with Julian Caillon. Despite positive feedback on their Tango, the pair scored 21 points, placing them at the bottom of the leaderboard. Some viewers attributed their struggles to the song choice, Shania Twain's "That Don't Impress Me Much."
