Delta Goodrem Recovers at Home Following Broken Rib Injury

Strictly star Delta Goodrem has updated fans on her recovery after being forced to pull out of this weekend's show due to a broken rib.

The Australian singer, 41, has been advised by doctors to rest and will not be participating in Saturday's dancefloor events. Goodrem and her professional partner, Kai Widdrington, will receive a bye and advance to next week's competition.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Goodrem shared a photo of herself on her sofa surrounded by flowers. "Just wanted to come on here and say a big thank you to everyone who has sent messages and wrote lovely comments the last couple of days, I see them all," she told fans. "Not the start to the week I’d hoped for but your support has meant the world."

She also expressed gratitude to her dance partner, Kai Widdrington, and the Strictly team. "Also special big thank you to my amazing dance partner @kaiwidd who I will miss dancing with this weekend but I am so beyond grateful for his guidance and friendship through it all.. as well as the wonderful Strictly team!!" she wrote. "Resting and recovering at home and will be cheering everyone on from my couch on Saturday night xx."

Vogue Williams confirmed on Wednesday's episode of Lorraine that Goodrem sustained a broken rib and had been dancing with the injury for several days. Doctors have recommended she sleep upright to aid her recovery.

Goodrem is scheduled to meet with show bosses and medical staff on Monday to determine her fitness to return. Strictly rules permit contestants only one bye before they must withdraw from the competition.

Sources indicated that Goodrem injured herself during training last week but still performed her Salsa routine, which included complex lifts, on Saturday's live show. She and Widdrington topped the leaderboard for a second consecutive week with their performance to Jocelyn Brown and Chaka Khan's "Always There/Ain't Nobody."

However, hours after the show, Goodrem sought emergency care at A&E due to pain that prevented her from sleeping. She returned to the hospital on Monday, where doctors advised the "heartbroken" star to pause training. A source told The Sun that the injury, which began minorly last week, had rapidly worsened, and despite a brave face on Saturday night, she was in considerable pain and exhausted.

Meanwhile, Amy Dowden, who was eliminated in week one with partner Chris Appleton, is slated to return this Saturday. She will perform with Kai Widdrington to Dolly Parton's "Jolene."
