Delta Flight to Tel Aviv Evacuated in Israel Following Bomb Threat
The aircraft was diverted to a remote runway upon landing and passengers were safely evacuated after a security threat was reported.
A Delta flight traveling from New York to Tel Aviv was evacuated shortly after landing in Israel on Tuesday morning due to a bomb threat.
The aircraft was directed to a remote section of the airport where security personnel conducted checks. Local media reports indicate that the bomb threat is believed to have been a false alarm, and passengers were safely escorted to the terminal. No immediate danger was reported.
The incident occurred as aviation security in the region remains heightened. Delta Air Lines had resumed its New York to Tel Aviv route in September after a six-month suspension following the start of the conflict with Iran.
This event follows a near-miss incident last month involving a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv. In that case, an attempted hijacking by a co-pilot, reportedly inspired by the September 11, 2001 attacks, was thwarted by the captain. The co-pilot allegedly used a crash axe in an attempt to seize control of the aircraft, causing it to descend sharply before other crew members intervened. The Flydubai flight safely landed in Saudi Arabia. Investigations into that incident revealed the suspect had researched the flight route and airport procedures, and had shown signs of extremism as early as 2017. He had previously worked for other airlines and had undergone training in Australia, though an application to work for Royal Air Maroc was later rejected. Saudi Arabia has also launched its own safety investigation into that flight.
