Delta Air Lines has ceased nonstop flights from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Houston, Memphis, and St. Louis. The airline confirmed that these routes were discontinued as part of its “routine network planning.”
The pause on these routes had initially been put in place in June, reportedly due to rising fuel costs and other increasing expenses. The temporary measure has now become a permanent discontinuation for these three hubs. A Delta spokesperson stated that the airline apologizes for any inconvenience and will directly contact affected customers to discuss alternative travel arrangements.
Passengers impacted by this change can check their itineraries via the Fly Delta app or by logging into their online account for automatic updates. Delta is expected to offer rebooking options, potentially through New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA) or a full refund for affected flights.
While these nonstop services from JFK have been eliminated, Delta continues to offer nonstop flights to Houston, Memphis, and St. Louis from LaGuardia Airport. Travelers should also consider potential adjustments to ground transportation and parking arrangements when switching airports.
New Route to Florida Introduced
In a contrasting development, Delta is launching a new nonstop flight from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) in North Carolina to Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) near Fort Myers. This new service is scheduled to begin on November 21, just before the busy Thanksgiving travel period. The route will utilize a Bombardier CRJ-900 regional jet, marking a new destination from RDU for the airline.
Recent Changes in Premium Seating
Separately, Delta recently introduced changes to its premium seating options, making them more affordable. The airline rolled out "Basic fares" for first class and business class, offering an economy seat with some enhanced amenities. These benefits were previously exclusive to Delta First, Delta Premium Select, and Delta One flyers. This new tier aims to provide customers with more options to access premium products at a potentially lower cost compared to standard first-class tickets. The benefits can include Zone 1 boarding and lie-flat seats with privacy suites on select aircraft.
