Bodycam footage captured Ridwan Abdilahi, 23, disregarding a red light on his delivery bike in Bishopsgate, City of London, on September 8. As officers stopped him shortly before 5 p.m., Abdilahi initially argued that the light had "just gone red, right now." He was then instructed to move his bike to the side of the road.

While being escorted to the pavement, Abdilahi attempted to flee but was restrained by an officer. A subsequent search of his coat revealed a flick knife. When questioned about his attempted escape, Abdilahi stated he was "on my way to meet my girl" due to unspecified "issues with a female."

Abdilahi was arrested and charged with possession of a bladed article, failing to stop for police, and running a red light on a bike. He pleaded guilty to these offenses in court and has been remanded into custody pending sentencing.

Sergeant Sibyl Beaumont of the City of London Police's Cycle Team commented on the incident, stating, "This dangerous individual may never have come to our attention had it not been for officers proactively patrolling our streets and routinely stopping those committing traffic offences." She added that the swift actions of officers led to his detention and the discovery of the weapon. "This weapon served no legitimate purpose and was only capable of causing serious harm," Beaumont said. "Had officers not intervened when they did, he could still be carrying that weapon on the streets."

Sergeant Beaumont highlighted the effectiveness of the Safer City Streets initiative, emphasizing that targeting lower-level offenses and maintaining a visible police presence allows officers to identify offenders, remove dangerous weapons, and prevent more serious crimes.
