Deion Sanders Expresses Frustration with Colorado QB Situation

Colorado's football team is facing significant challenges at the quarterback position as they head into their Week 5 bye. Following a decisive 29-7 loss to No. 12 Texas Tech on Saturday, head coach Deion Sanders voiced his frustration, describing the quarterback unit as one that is "somewhat disabling us and disarming us." He stressed the urgency for a player to emerge and take control of the role.

The Buffaloes, now 2-3 overall and 0-2 in Big 12 play, are considering all three quarterbacks on their roster: junior starter Isaac Wilson, freshman Kaneal Sweetwyne, and former four-star recruit Julian "JuJu" Lewis. They will make a decision before facing No. 13 Utah on Oct. 17.

Isaac Wilson, the younger brother of former first-round pick Zach Wilson, struggled in his first career start for Colorado. He completed 26 of 55 passes for 290 yards, throwing one touchdown and three interceptions. Across three appearances this season, Wilson's completion percentage stands at 56.3%.

Julian Lewis had his starting role paused after being replaced at halftime during Colorado's previous game against Baylor. Lewis, a former four-star prospect, has recorded 733 passing yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions with a 47.7 QBR this season.

Sweetwyne has seen limited action in two games, completing 8 of 12 passes for 42 yards.

The team's quarterback instability, with five different players at the position in the last 13 months, has been a significant impediment to their performance early in the season.

"We got one darn problem. You guys know darn well what that is," Sanders stated. "Let’s stop the foolishness. We’ve got to play better at one specific position. That’s it."

Colorado has struggled to score against Power Four opponents, averaging fewer than 14 points per game. Their total yards per game average of 394.2 ranks 14th among 16 teams in the Big 12 conference.
