Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth Expresses Enthusiasm for Firing Squad Execution, Plans Public Viewing
Hegseth stated that the execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan will be visible to the public.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has indicated that the upcoming execution of former Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan will be made public and available for viewing. Hasan is scheduled to be executed by firing squad on December 3 for the 2009 Fort Hood shooting rampage that killed 13 people.
President Donald Trump approved Hasan's execution by firing squad, marking the first time the U.S. military has carried out a death sentence since 1961. Hegseth, speaking to MAGA influencer Jack Posobiec, expressed anticipation for the event, describing the execution as a "no-brainer."
Hegseth stated that the execution will take place on a Thursday at 1 p.m., the same day and time Hasan carried out his attack. "It's gonna be soldiers with rifles executing the firing squad," Hegseth said, emphasizing the need for public awareness of serious consequences for such actions. "We'll make sure that people are able to watch it, that it's public, because people need to understand that there's serious consequences for these types of things," he added.
The Pentagon later confirmed that the execution will be livestreamed.
