Defense Secretary Hegseth Attends Texas A&M Game Amidst Upset Loss and Impeachment Push
Pete Hegseth faced a mixed reception at a college football game where his presence coincided with a significant upset for the home team and a renewed effort to impeach him.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth attended a football game at Texas A&M University on Saturday, where the No. 9 Aggies suffered a surprising 31-21 loss to Kentucky. Hegseth was in College Station to watch the SEC conference game.
The school, designated as a senior military college, has strong ties to the American military. Prior to the game, Hegseth addressed the corps of cadets. He later appeared at Kyle Field, where he was met with cheers from the crowd.
Hegseth was accompanied by Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins. The defeat marked the only loss by a ranked team to an unranked opponent that week.
The game's outcome occurred as Representative Thomas Massie, whose home state is Kentucky, introduced articles of impeachment against Hegseth earlier in the week. According to Politico, Massie cited "high crimes and misdemeanors" including the Iran conflict, U.S. Navy operations in the Caribbean, and alleged suppression of free speech.
Hegseth's reception at the Texas A&M game contrasted with that of Senator Ted Cruz the previous week. Cruz was reportedly booed by students while promoting the Protect College Sports Act during a taping of College GameDay at the University of Texas in Austin.
