Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan, 81, has been hospitalized due to a medical emergency, prompting the cancellation of two scheduled tour dates in Germany. The band announced the cancellations with "with great disappointment" on Saturday via Instagram.

The concerts affected are the performance originally planned for Saturday night at the QI Arena in Leipzig and Sunday evening's show at the Sporthalle in Hamburg. The band cited Gillan's hospitalization as the reason for the cancellations, stating they would be "unable to perform."

"This comes as a result of a medical emergency involving Ian Gillan, which has resulted in his current hospitalisation [sic]," the band's statement read. "We understand that this announcement comes at short notice and share the disappointment of all our wonderful fans that we are unable to perform in Leipzig and Hamburg."

Deep Purple stated that they are working to find new dates for the canceled performances, and that all previously purchased tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled shows. The band concluded their message with "With the greatest love and respect … Deep Purple x."
