Authorities discovered two highly decomposed bodies inside a five-story apartment building in the Bronx after a 911 caller reported a strong odor emanating from the building. The discovery was made around 8:30 p.m. on Carpenter Avenue in the Wakefield neighborhood.
Responding officers and firefighters were directed to the source of the foul smell. Upon entering the apartment, they found the two bodies in a state of advanced decomposition. Sources indicated that the condition of the remains made it difficult for investigators to immediately determine the sex or age of the deceased. One body was found beneath a couch, while the other was discovered splayed on the floor.
Investigators noted the absence of any apparent physical trauma on the bodies. Drug paraphernalia was found at the scene. The New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct autopsies to determine the official cause of death for both individuals.
