BOSTON – The death of Yoseliani Ann Marte Ocasio, 18, who was found with a gunshot wound at a Boston home owned by Conan Harris, the husband of Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., has been ruled a homicide.
Boston Police responded to a report of a shooting in the city's Mattapan neighborhood on July 18 at approximately 1:52 p.m., according to authorities. Officers found Ocasio at the scene, where she was pronounced dead. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide on Thursday.
Property records indicate that Harris owns the home where Ocasio was discovered. Officials have not indicated any connection between the property's ownership and Ocasio's death.
Ocasio's mother, Elenie Ocasio, told Boston 25 that she believes she knows who is responsible for her daughter's death, stating, "This coward killed my baby. He put a gun to her head, took my baby in that house and left her to die."
Rep. Pressley released a statement to WCVB, saying, "I am devastated about the death of Yoseliani Marte, an 18-year-old with so many dreams ahead of her, her life cut short by domestic violence. As the parent of a teenager, the thought of a young person violently losing their life in this way is beyond crushing."
Pressley's office stated that neither the congresswoman nor her family were involved in the incident.
