Dean McDermott recently marked three years of sobriety, an anniversary that coincides with the end of his marriage to Tori Spelling. The actor shared a video on Instagram celebrating the milestone and expressing gratitude for the support he received from his "Family, Friends, Fellowship, Sponsor and a 12 step program."

McDermott, 59, referred to himself as "Clean Dean" in the video posted Friday, stating that recovery is possible for others who are struggling. "Hell has an exit. If I can do it, you can do it," he said. He emphasized the importance of asking for help, describing it as the first step in the recovery process. "It starts by reaching out your hand and asking for help," McDermott advised. "Ask for help, it's OK. You can't do this thing alone, none of us can."

The actor previously sought treatment for alcohol and drug abuse following his separation from Spelling in 2023. He and Spelling, 53, finalized their divorce in October 2025. The couple was married for 17 years and share five children: Liam, 19, Stella, 18, Hattie, 14, Finn, 13, and Beau, 9. McDermott also has a son, Jack, 27, from his first marriage.

In a previous interview, McDermott admitted that his struggles with alcohol and drugs contributed to the breakdown of his marriage to Spelling. He reported drinking a "fifth of tequila every night, seven days a week" along with prescription medications. He described feeling isolated even while living with his family, acknowledging that his addiction led to "anger" and fights that frightened his wife and children. "I couldn't do it anymore. I couldn't live that life anymore. I was tired of the anger and the yelling," he stated.

McDermott credited Spelling with showing love and support during his struggles, prioritizing his well-being. "She put my well-being well ahead of hers," he noted. "She loved me so much that she didn't really want to tell me how it was affecting her, although I could see it in her face."

Since finalizing their divorce, McDermott and Spelling have reportedly become amicable co-parents. "We're great coparents," McDermott told Us Weekly in November 2025. "Our relationship is fantastic. We're a united front. It's all about the kids."
