Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio believes that a significant portion of the American populace is receptive to the policy proposals and vision offered by the more progressive, socialist-aligned members of the Democratic Party. He stated that specific leaders emerging from groups like the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) are providing a vision that many Americans "are hungry for."

De Blasio pointed to figures such as Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani as examples of politicians who are resonating with voters by addressing concerns about the current political status quo and focusing on issues like affordability.

"It is about the leaders that are emerging, like Bernie Sanders, AOC, Mamdani, some of the folks who won primaries lately," de Blasio said on "The Ingraham Angle." "They are pointing in a specific direction, and there's a reason they're winning."

While de Blasio clarified that he does not identify as a socialist or a member of the DSA, he expressed support for several key policy points associated with the movement. These include ending the war in Iran, implementing a Medicare-for-all system, and increasing taxes on the wealthiest Americans. He argued that these policies directly address voters' concerns about economic pressures.

"These progressive candidates are winning because they're talking about how to raise wages, how to lower health care costs, how to get out of the war in Iran that is shooting up gasoline prices," he explained, while also noting that his alignment with the movement has its limits.

In addition to economic issues, de Blasio also advocated for the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He suggested that the agency should be dismantled and replaced with a new entity designed to manage border security more effectively while reducing violence in cities. "We need a secure border, but we should abolish ICE because it's a broken agency and start over with a different kind of agency that can secure our border without creating so much violence in our cities," he stated. He further called for a pathway to legal status for undocumented immigrants who have not committed serious crimes.
