DC Weatherman Sheds 55 Pounds, Matches High School Weight
Steve Rudin of ABC 7 News documented his significant weight loss transformation over the past year, celebrating a return to a weight not seen since his teenage years.
Steve Rudin, a senior meteorologist for ABC 7 News in Washington, D.C., has publicly shared his remarkable 55-pound weight loss journey through before-and-after photos. Rudin's transformation saw him go from 229 pounds in October of the previous year to 174 pounds a year later.
"The last time I weighed this much, I was a senior in high school," Rudin stated in a Facebook post, adding context by noting he weighed 190 pounds when he moved to Washington D.C. in December 1995. Over the past 12 months, his body measurements have also seen a substantial change, with his waistline reducing from 38 to 32 inches, his suit size shifting from a 46 to a 40, and his t-shirt size changing from XL to medium.
"I’ve had to replace my entire wardrobe, which is a nice problem to have. An expensive one, but nice," Rudin commented on social media. He has previously shared older photos from his career, dating back to 1996, to contrast with his current appearance. Rudin joined ABC 7 in 2006 and has been forecasting the weather for the Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area for over 30 years.
Viewers and supporters have reacted positively to Rudin's announcement on social media. Comments included praise such as, "I knew it, watching you everyday I could see the change. Congratulations to you, looking great," and personal anecdotes of similar weight loss achievements. One commenter expressed a desire to achieve a similar goal, stating, "Incredible! Showing the before and after pics are captivating. I’m 5’9” and weigh approximately 230 lbs and would absolutely LOVE to get down to about 180."
Rudin also humorously remarked that his on-screen weather reports now have "a little more room for the map." He attributed his progress to "30 years of working out left some muscle under the padding."
According to his station, Rudin maintains an active lifestyle off the air, often enjoying fitness and spending time with his dog. He also engages with community organizations and fitness events, such as the Air Force Cycling Classic in Washington D.C.
