David Zwirner Recognized Among TIME's Most Influential People in Art

David Zwirner, a prominent figure in the art world, has been named one of TIME's 100 most influential people in art for 2026. Zwirner, a second-generation dealer, has cultivated a reputation for championing museum-approved postwar and contemporary artists. His gallery has recently expanded its roster to include emerging millennial and Gen Z artists such as Yu Nishimura, Sasha Gordon, and Louis Fratino.

In recent years, the David Zwirner gallery has also attracted significant established artists from competing galleries. These acquisitions include German painter Gerhard Richter, the estate of American sculptor Robert Therrien, and Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara, whose first exhibition with the gallery is slated for New York this fall.

Zwirner's business now operates across 10 locations in four countries. He distinguishes himself from other major gallerists through a strong emphasis on efficiency and brand development. His business strategies have been influenced by his past work with McKinsey and Goldman Sachs veteran Suki Larson. Zwirner has also invested in non-traditional tools for the art market, such as a podcast launched in 2018 and digital sales infrastructure, to engage new audiences. He acknowledges that sustained success requires more than just artistic taste and diligent effort.
