David Stearns' Foundation for Brewers' World Series Success Still Evident
The current Mets president of baseball operations played a key role in building the Milwaukee Brewers roster that reached the World Series.
David Stearns, the current president of baseball operations for the New York Mets, was instrumental in building the foundation of the Milwaukee Brewers roster that recently advanced to the World Series. Although Stearns departed the Brewers organization three years ago, his influence remains on nearly half of the team that swept the Dodgers in the NLCS.
Stearns served as the top decision-maker for the Brewers from September 2015 through October 2022, first as general manager and then as president of baseball operations. He then spent a year in an advisory role to the team's ownership before joining the Mets in Queens. During his tenure, Stearns utilized amateur drafts, international signings, and trades to construct the core of the team that will compete for the franchise's first World Series title in 44 years.
Following Stearns' departure after the 2022 season, his former assistant general manager, Matt Arnold, took over. Arnold made the pivotal moves that propelled the consistently contending Brewers over the final hurdle to reach the World Series this October.
