David Moulton, Sports Radio Personality and Broadcast Associate, Dies at 59

David Moulton, a prominent sports radio personality in Southwest Florida and an associate for NFL broadcasts, died on Saturday after a six-year battle with stage four renal cell cancer. He was 59.

Moulton's wife, Julie, announced his passing, stating he died in hospice care. She shared that the cancer had metastasized to his bones two years prior and that Moulton had relentlessly pursued new treatments.

"He loved life and loved each and every one of you more than words can express," Julie Moulton wrote. "We are so thankful for the love and support you all have given us. My sweet husband you are finally free of pain and with all our heavenly angels."

Kevin Burkhardt, lead play-by-play announcer for Fox's NFL coverage, announced Moulton's death during the network's broadcast of the Lions-Packers game on Sunday, calling him "a guy that everyone around him loved."

Moulton had recently left the "Miller and Moulton" show with his longtime radio partner, Mark Miller, in August due to his declining health. For several years, he had been part of ESPN's "Monday Night Football" coverage alongside Troy Aikman and Joe Buck. He also previously served as a spotter for Buck and Aikman during Thursday and Sunday NFL games on Fox and for SEC games on CBS with Gary Danielson. Moulton also contributed to Sirius XM's Mad Dog Radio and NFL Radio.

He was also the voice of Florida Gulf Coast athletics and worked as a columnist for the Naples Daily News and The News-Press from 2007 to 2018.

Former colleagues and friends shared tributes to Moulton. Troy Aikman described him as his "right-hand man" since 2018, a "loyal, dependable and a warrior." He added, "My heart breaks for his family and all who loved him. I'm grateful for the years we shared and will miss him deeply."

Gary Danielson, through CBS Sports reporter Jenny Dell, expressed his sorrow, recalling Moulton as his researcher and spotter since 2006. "More importantly for me, David grew into being my most trusted friend," Danielson wrote. "During our travels together, we talked sports, but also so much more about life. I will miss him dearly."

Mark Miller remembered their 20 years together on "Miller and Moulton," calling Moulton a "sports encyclopedia" with an unparalleled recall of games and players. "More importantly though, he was a great friend, husband and father," Miller stated. "If you were in his inner circle, there wasn’t anything he would not do for you."
