Actor David Krumholtz, known for his role in "Oppenheimer," announced an indefinite break from acting, citing frustration and a desire to redefine his career path. The announcement, initially made on the social media platform Threads, was later deleted, with Krumholtz clarifying that he is not quitting entirely but rather seeking new, more rewarding passions.
Krumholtz, who has been in the entertainment industry for three decades, expressed being "fed up, fried" with Hollywood. This statement followed an online interaction where he engaged with author Alex Kornswiet's post advocating for celebrities to "act like normal humans." Krumholtz accused Kornswiet of promoting bullying and treating celebrities as "others," which he likened to a form of harassment. This exchange led to backlash, with some users accusing Krumholtz of similar behavior.
One user, who identified as tarasel_of_progress, shared screenshots alleging years of harassment from Krumholtz after a disagreement on X (formerly Twitter) in 2014. The user claimed Krumholtz engaged in misogynistic attacks, sent disturbing direct messages, and used burner accounts to continue the alleged harassment over several years, even during the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements. Golden Globe nominee Don Cheadle, who previously worked with Krumholtz, commented on the situation with a simple "Sheesh."
Krumholtz's past on-set behavior has also drawn scrutiny. He recalled being "unprofessionally behaved" as a child actor and admitted to being "high as hell" during the filming of "The Santa Clause 2" in 2002. This led to him refusing to wear his Bernard the Elf costume for a Disney parade alongside Hilary Duff, a decision he later regretted and called "a huge mistake." He stated he did not work with Disney again for 20 years following the incident.
In addition to these issues, Krumholtz recently revealed he stopped smoking marijuana after developing cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS), a condition he described as potentially life-threatening. He linked the rise of CHS to the increased potency of commercially produced cannabis, suggesting that manufacturers have inadvertently made the drug more addictive and dangerous. Krumholtz also shared that he no longer drinks alcohol, regretting being intoxicated on set during the filming of "This Is the End."
Despite these controversies, Krumholtz expressed gratitude for the supportive messages he received following his initial announcement. He differentiated between the art of acting, which he still enjoys, and the profession of acting, which he feels has lost its appeal. His career began at age 13, and he has since appeared in numerous films and television shows, including "Freaks and Geeks," "Numb3rs," and "The Santa Clause" franchise, before his role as Isidor Rabi in "Oppenheimer."
