David Chokachi, 58, participated in a 5K event at Malibu's Zuma Beach on Sunday, wearing a 40-pound backpack as part of the Malibu Moves marathon. The event supports local fire relief and youth charities, having surpassed $150,000 in donations.
Chokachi, known for his role as Cody Madison in "Baywatch" from 1995 to 1999, expressed his commitment to the event and the Community Brigade, describing it as "something close to [his] heart and so important to this community." He highlighted the benefits of rucking, the practice of walking with a weighted backpack, noting its cardiovascular challenge and impact on endurance. "It’s a big part of my training, and I’m a huge believer in it," he stated.
The actor is set to reprise his role in the upcoming reboot of "Baywatch," scheduled to begin airing in January. Chokachi shared that his fitness level during the original "Baywatch" series directly influenced his screen time. "The more fit I was, the more stories they'd write for me, the more episodes I'd be in," he explained. He adopted a similar approach for the reboot, aiming to make a strong statement as an original cast member joining a new ensemble.
Chokachi attributes his consistent fitness to a lifelong dedication to sports and an early start to his day. "I'm up at 3:30 in the morning every day and ready to go," he said. He advocates for rising early to maximize productivity and foster a sense of accomplishment, encouraging others to "get outside," "get moving," and "show up for your community."
Malibu Moves, founded by Erica Segel, operates under the motto "Purpose Over Pace." The event aims to unite the community while supporting local causes. Organizers noted a significant increase in participation since the event's inception in 2023, contributing to their growing philanthropic impact.
