David Carr Launches

Super Bowl-winning quarterback David Carr has entered the real estate market as a partner in a new housing development in Clovis, California, dubbed "Gridiron Grove." The community features homes starting at $400,000, a significant offering in the Golden State where the average home price is around $900,000.

Carr, a former signal-caller for the New York Giants and Houston Texans, expressed his commitment to the region where his collegiate and professional football careers began. "This is America to me, family is still valued here," Carr told the California Post. "It’s still home. It’ll always be home for us."

Traditions at Heritage Grove, the official name of the development, began sales earlier this month. The homes range from approximately 1,200 to 1,900 square feet. The largest floor plan, known as "The Encore," offers up to four bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. Standard features include 9-foot ceilings, ample natural light, kitchen islands with sinks, and charging stations in the kitchen and master bedroom.

The gated neighborhood, located near Minnewana Avenue, also provides amenities such as a swimming pool and pickleball courts. Carr noted that his brother, Derek Carr, who has played for the New Orleans Saints and Las Vegas Raiders, also owns a home in the vicinity.

Carr partnered with Bonadelle Family, a homebuilder with 80 years of experience in the Fresno Valley. He expressed his belief in the project and the area's potential for growth. "I believe in what they’re doing, I believe in this area. I want it to grow," Carr stated.

Carr's decision to invest in Clovis, a city in California's Central Valley, contrasts with the trend of athletes often seeking affluent coastal enclaves. He emphasized the importance of community and accessibility for starter homes in an area that has faced economic challenges. "Not everyone can have a farm, so you need starter houses with a community feel. You can open your garage doors and meet people, talk to your neighbors. That’s how I grew up, playing football in the street, using light posts as end zones," Carr said.

He also mentioned that his son, Austin Carr, and his wife, Kaleigh, are expecting a child and plan to move into "Gridiron Grove" to be closer to family in the area. "Now he’s hand feeding cows instead, and we’re about to pass that on to a new generation," Carr added, reflecting on the change from his earlier career days.

Carr, who was the first overall NFL draft pick in 2002 after playing for Fresno State, won a Super Bowl with the Giants in 2012. He expressed a sense of belonging in Clovis, stating, "This is where I’m supposed to be."
