David Cameron Celebrates 60th Birthday with Lavish Weekend in Cornwall
Former Prime Minister David Cameron marked his 60th birthday with three days of festivities at his Cornish holiday home, culminating in an early morning swim.
Former Prime Minister David Cameron celebrated his 60th birthday with a three-day event at his Cornish holiday home, which included elaborate dinners and gatherings with over 100 friends. The festivities, held despite intermittent weather, concluded on Sunday morning with Cameron taking a cold plunge in the sea at Daymer Bay.
Lord Cameron, who officially turned 60 on Friday, was seen entering the water with his sister Clare. He donned blue swimming shorts and braved the 13C (55F) temperature and wind for a brief swim before returning to his property. By late morning, he was observed walking along the coast with friends, appearing refreshed.
The weekend's celebrations were notably grander than those for his 50th birthday, which had been overshadowed by his resignation as Prime Minister following the Brexit vote. For his 60th, Cameron hosted two catered dinners by Michelin-starred chef Paul Ainsworth, with guests including notable figures such as Gordon Ramsay, Jeremy Clarkson, and Helena Bonham Carter. The events also featured afternoon tea on Sunday.
Preparations for the celebrations began earlier in the week, with large marquees erected in the garden of his £2 million Cornish house. Food and drink trucks were present, and the marquees were decorated with pennants, bunting, and festoon lighting. Cameron himself was seen enjoying the beach throughout the weekend, including a swim with friends on Saturday morning and a dip on Friday afternoon.
Locals have described Cameron as maintaining a low profile when visiting the area, often seen blending in with beachgoers. He and his wife, Samantha, have been spotted on the coast path, with him reportedly enjoying bodyboarding.
Cameron's Cornish property, purchased in 2017, has undergone renovations to enhance its suitability for hosting events. Additions include a snooker room, a green roof, a luxury hot tub, and a shepherd's hut, similar to one he previously used for writing memoirs. The property has previously drawn attention, including an incident in 2019 where teenage guests of his daughter were reportedly asked to leave after a gathering. Cameron is now a strategic adviser for the law firm DLA Piper and advises US firm Scale AI and Finback Investment Partners. He sits in the House of Lords as Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton.
