Dave Portnoy Blames Ohio State Coach Ryan Day for Barstool Sports' Exit from Fox's 'Big Noon Kickoff'
Barstool founder Dave Portnoy claims Ohio State head coach Ryan Day's complaints led to Fox Sports dropping him from college football broadcasts.
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has been removed from Fox Sports' "Big Noon Kickoff" college football program, a decision he attributes to Ohio State head coach Ryan Day. Portnoy publicly stated on X that Day and Ohio State complained to the Big Ten conference and threatened Fox, ultimately leading to the network's decision.
"Ohio State and Ryan Day b****ed and moaned to the Big 10 and threatened Fox till they had no choice," Portnoy wrote Friday night. He further characterized Day as "soft" and added a "#GoBlue" hashtag, referencing his alma mater, the University of Michigan.
The removal was first reported by Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, citing sources familiar with the situation. The Daily Mail has since confirmed the news. Fox Sports declined to comment when reached by The Daily Mail.
Portnoy and his Barstool Sports colleagues, including Dan "Big Cat" Katz, had been featured on "Big Noon Kickoff" for over a year. While no single incident was cited as the cause for the departure, sources suggested that Portnoy's presence at Ohio State home games contributed to the issues. Portnoy, a vocal critic of Ohio State and a booster for rival Michigan, reportedly faced past claims of being banned from Ohio Stadium.
Despite these issues, Portnoy asserted on X that "most fans love the rivalry and [aren't] p*****s like Cryin Ryan." He also stated that "The Barstool College Football will continue on."
Another factor cited in the decision was the challenge of integrating Barstool's uninhibited style with the more traditional format of the "Big Noon Kickoff" studio show. However, this change does not affect Portnoy's other Fox Sports commitment: the weekday morning show "Wake-Up Barstool," which will continue to air on FS1.
