Davante Adams Says Aaron Rodgers Chemistry Was on a 'Different Level'
The Rams' star receiver reflected on his past connection with Rodgers while acknowledging his developing chemistry with Matthew Stafford.
Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Davante Adams has stated that his connection with former teammate Aaron Rodgers was on a "different level" compared to his current chemistry with Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Adams made these remarks during an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Tuesday. Despite a strong performance with Stafford on Monday night, where Adams recorded eight catches for 195 yards and two touchdowns against the Giants, he suggested that his bond with Rodgers was unparalleled.
"You seen with me and Aaron, it was a different level to our connection," Adams said when asked about the time it takes to build rapport with quarterbacks. He explained that his time with Stafford has involved a learning curve, particularly noting that their first opportunity to work together extensively occurred just before the current season began.
"Last year, [Stafford and I] didn’t have much time to get ready for the season. I think our first time working together was… right before the season. The week of Week 1 was when we first got together," Adams stated. "It just took a little bit of time and understanding each other a little bit better. And you get products like what you saw last night."
Adams credited Rodgers with significantly impacting his early career, calling it "one of the biggest blessings" due to how their connection fostered attention to detail as a receiver. Adams and Rodgers spent nine seasons together, initially with the Green Bay Packers and later with the New York Jets. During their time as teammates, they connected for 83 touchdowns, ranking third in NFL history for touchdown connections.
In contrast, Stafford and Adams have played two seasons together and have achieved 16 touchdown connections. While this is a significant achievement, it remains considerably lower than the numbers Adams posted with Rodgers.
Despite the strong numbers Adams has put up with Stafford and the Rams, his comments have drawn attention and may resonate with fans. The performance against the Giants showcased a developing partnership, but Adams' remarks highlight the unique and deep-seated connection he shared with Rodgers throughout their prolonged history together.
