Dashcam footage released by the Tennessee Highway Patrol captured the moment a patrol cruiser was struck from behind during a traffic stop, initiating a chain-reaction collision. The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, on Interstate 65 in Davidson County.
The video shows an out-of-control vehicle colliding with the police car, pushing it into another vehicle that had been pulled over ahead. The striking vehicle then swerved around the damaged patrol car, sustaining significant front-end damage.
Body camera footage from inside the patrol car shows the force of the impact, which reportedly knocked the camera from the trooper's uniform. The trooper inside the vehicle was heard calling for backup immediately following the collision, though the extent of any injuries was not immediately clear.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol used the incident to remind drivers of the state's Move Over Law. The agency emphasized on social media that drivers should move over a lane when they see flashing lights ahead, if it is safe to do so. If moving over is not possible, drivers are advised to slow down and proceed with caution.
