Country artist Dasha has released a new single titled “Memo,” described as an anthem for self-validation and independence after a relationship ends. The song, co-written with Shane McAnally, Ashley Gorley, and Ben Johnson, follows her 2023 hit “Austin (Boots Stop Workin’).”

“Memo” features lyrics about moving on, with Dasha singing, “Didn’t get the memo/Even all your friends know I’m already halfway out of Tennessee.” She stated that the song represents the moment when an individual stops seeking external validation and chooses themselves, particularly after a failed romance or other setbacks.

Country artist Dasha has unveiled "Memo," a new song which reflects “the moment where you stop chasing validation and start choosing yourself.”

“If someone listens to this song after a breakup, during a hard season, or just on a day when they need a little confidence boost, I hope it helps them remember that their worth has never depended on someone else’s opinion,” Dasha said in an interview with HuffPost.

The music video for “Memo” was filmed in locations reminiscent of her native California. In addition to her music career, Dasha recently donated $50,000 to Cowboy Ranch Rescue, an organization that rehabilitates abused and neglected horses. Dasha, who previously worked on a farm, called the donation a natural choice, noting the significant impact of even small acts of kindness.

“Memo” will be included on Dasha's upcoming third album, the follow-up to her 2024 breakout album, “What Happens Now?” Her recent single, “Mad About It,” released in May, also explores themes of navigating post-breakup scenarios.

Regarding the new album, Dasha described it as encompassing themes of love, heartbreak, confidence, freedom, and self-discovery, with even vulnerable moments stemming from a place of strength. "If ['What Happens Now?'] was me introducing myself, this one feels like me fully owning who I am after the whirlwind roller coaster I’ve been on,” she explained.

Dasha's songwriting, which often channels personal experiences into music with a pop-influenced sound, has led to comparisons with Taylor Swift. Last year, her song “Austin” achieved over one billion streams on Spotify, making her the second solo female country artist after Swift to reach this milestone on the platform. The song's popularity was partly driven by its virality on TikTok.

While appreciative of “Austin’s” success, Dasha stated her intention was not to replicate past achievements with her new album. She aimed to write from her current perspective, rather than conforming to external expectations. The album is tentatively scheduled for an early 2027 release.
