Former West End star Darren Day has embarked on a new chapter in his life, returning to musical theatre after a period marked by addiction, legal troubles, and a tumultuous personal life. Currently performing as record producer Sam Phillips in a new production of "Million Dollar Quartet" in Cirencester, Day is described by insiders as having come "full circle" in his career.

This return to the stage marks a significant turnaround for the entertainer, whose career in the 1990s and early 2000s was often overshadowed by his personal struggles. Day, who rose to prominence in the lead role of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" in 1993, also hosted the ITV game show "You Bet!" and appeared on reality programs like "I'm a Celebrity" and "Celebrity Big Brother."

His personal life, however, was fraught with difficulties. He has spoken publicly about his struggles with cocaine and alcohol addiction, including a severe binge in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic that led him to barricade himself in a bathroom for a week. He has also faced multiple drink-driving convictions, including one in 2010 that resulted in a five-year driving ban. In 2023, he revealed that he went through alcohol and drug withdrawal while on "I'm a Celebrity" in 2002, describing the experience as going cold turkey in front of the nation.

Day's romantic life has also been a frequent subject of media attention. He has had six engagements, including relationships with actresses Anna Friel and Isla Fisher. His relationship with Hear'Say singer Suzanne Shaw, with whom he has a son, Corey, ended abruptly shortly after their child's birth in 2005, with reports at the time stating he declared he did not "do family."

Family has played a crucial role in Day's recovery. Earlier this year, he became a grandfather for the first time when his son Corey and partner welcomed a baby boy named Colton. Day and Suzanne Shaw reunited to celebrate the grandson's arrival, with Day sharing a photo and calling it "one of the greatest days of my life."

He is also settled with his fiancée, actress Sophie Ladds, with whom he has performed on stage. Despite his personal progress, Day recently drew attention for publicly defending his long-time friend Phillip Schofield, describing him as a "good man" who did not deserve to have his career taken away following Schofield's admitted affair with a younger colleague.

The resurgence in his career and personal life offers a new chapter for Day, who for years struggled with issues that threatened to derail his professional endeavors.
