Senator Darline Graham, R-S.C., revealed details of a private meeting with then-President Donald Trump in the Oval Office shortly after the death of her brother, the late Senator Lindsey Graham. During the meeting, Trump offered his condolences and encouraged her to run for a full Senate term, promising his endorsement.
Graham, who was appointed to temporarily fill her brother's seat, told Fox News' Sean Hannity that Trump was "very sincere in his condolences" and spoke of Lindsey Graham as a close friend and "family."
Addressing Key Issues
During her conversation with Trump, Darline Graham stated she also used the opportunity to bring up an issue important to her late brother: advancing sanctions against Russia. She expressed her desire to "push those across the finish line."
Trump later publicly urged Graham to enter the upcoming special election for the Senate seat, vowing his "complete and total endorsement" should she decide to run.
Graham has announced her intention to run for a full term in the Senate, aiming to continue her brother's legacy. She told Hannity that she conveyed two key attributes to the president: "I will work hard, and I'm loyal."
