A pair of masked individuals ascended the Empire State Building to its peak on Wednesday, unfurling a banner advocating for peace.
The climbers, who appeared to be a man and a woman, reached the spire of the 1,454-foot building around midday. The banner they displayed read, "When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace."
It remains unclear how the individuals managed to scale the iconic Manhattan skyscraper. Shortly after displaying the banner, one climber began to descend, with the pair eventually reaching a lower platform. At this point, one climber knelt and proposed to the other, who appeared to accept. The two then embraced and shared a kiss after removing their masks, an event captured by a helicopter circling the building.
The New York City Police Department responded to the scene. This is a developing story.
