Former England rugby player Danny Cipriani and his fiancée, Hollywood actress AnnaLynne McCord, are facing criticism for their decision to crowdfund their upcoming wedding. Cipriani's ex-wife, Victoria Rose, has called the move "plain tacky" and questioned the couple's financial situation.
The couple is reportedly seeking to raise around £10,000 through the crowdfunding platform Honeyfund to cover wedding expenses, including the marriage license, venue, reception, and attire. Rose expressed disbelief that guests are being asked to contribute to such personal costs.
"The very idea!" Rose stated. "They're even asking for money for the marriage licence. Donations for the honeymoon are just about acceptable, but they've both got the capacity to earn. Why don't they go on OnlyFans?"
Rose suggested that the couple could scale back their wedding plans, proposing a more intimate gathering such as a barbecue. She also speculated that the crowdfunding idea may have originated from McCord rather than Cipriani, citing her ex-husband's past generosity.
"The Danny I knew would sell his last pair of socks for a fiver rather than ask anyone for money," Rose remarked. She recalled an instance where Cipriani covered the funeral costs for her sister, despite their own financial constraints at the time.
Cipriani, who played for Gloucester, Wasps, Sale Sharks, and Bath, has been open about his past struggles with drug use and excessive spending in his 2023 autobiography, "Who Am I?". Rose, a neuroscience practitioner, was married to Cipriani from 2021 until their separation in 2024, receiving a divorce settlement of £275,000. She described their marriage as a period of both intense affection and significant turmoil, partly due to Cipriani's substance abuse.
Rose also raised questions about McCord's engagement ring, a reportedly large diamond, suggesting it could be sold to fund the wedding if the couple is indeed facing financial difficulties. She further noted similarities in how Cipriani pursued both her and McCord, including proposal methods and the use of their "wedding song" on social media.
McCord, known for her roles in the TV dramas "Nip/Tuck" and "90210," has been involved with Cipriani in various spiritual and consciousness retreats, including experiences with ayahuasca. Rose dismissed these activities as "crackers" and "complete woo-woo."
Victoria Rose mentioned that Cipriani's father, Jay, will not be attending the wedding, citing visa issues as the reason. The wedding is scheduled to take place on August 22 in Los Angeles. Rose herself plans to move to Los Angeles but stated she would not be paying to attend the ceremony.
Cipriani and McCord met on the exclusive dating website Raya. McCord, 39, and Cipriani, 38, have been engaged since late 2025, with Cipriani having revived a past relationship with McCord after his split from Rose in early 2024. Rose indicated that Cipriani spent a significant amount of money in the months between their separation and divorce, including on trips to Egypt where McCord hosts retreats.
