Cipriani, a former England rugby star, and McCord, a U.S. actress, were married in August. Their recent public appearance follows criticism they received for their wedding, which was reportedly crowdfunded. The couple had created a registry on the Honeyfund platform, requesting contributions for various wedding expenses, including music, the wedding certificate, floristry, and the cake, with a total target of approximately £10,660.
McCord addressed the backlash, stating that she mistakenly made the wedding wishlist public when she intended to send it only to guests. She reported that some individuals made small donations to leave negative comments, and the couple even received death threats. Insiders described the crowdfunding attempt as 'tacky and distasteful,' particularly given the couple's public profiles and perceived affluent lifestyles. Cipriani is estimated to have earned around £4 million during his rugby career, and McCord is believed to have amassed a similar fortune through her acting roles.
McCord explained that she initiated the crowdfunding page due to numerous guest inquiries about gifts, noting she already possessed most household items. She stated that the wedding invitation mentioned that guest contributions for flowers and music would be appreciated in lieu of traditional gifts. The actress revealed her surprise upon discovering the link was public when a co-star inquired about it.
The couple plans to hold two additional ceremonies: one in London and another in Cambodia.
Cipriani and McCord first met on the dating app Raya about a decade ago. After dating on and off for several years and separating in 2020, they reconnected in 2024. They were seen together again last summer, and Cipriani publicly confirmed their reunion in July, sharing a birthday message for McCord on Instagram.
McCord's engagement ring is described as a 15-carat, emerald-cut diamond with accent diamonds, set in yellow gold. Cipriani was previously married to Victoria Rose, whom he met in 2019 and married in April 2022. Rose filed for divorce in August 2024, nine months after their separation. She stated she was blindsided by Cipriani's public announcement of their split.
