Daniel Stewart Honors Late Father Patrick Stewart with Throwback Photo
Patrick Stewart's son shared a touching image on social media following the actor's death, years after the elder Stewart discussed their strained relationship.
Daniel Stewart, son of the late actor Patrick Stewart, has shared a tribute to his father on social media. The younger Stewart posted a throwback photograph on X, formerly Twitter, of himself giving his father a piggyback ride on stage.
Stewart's passing at the age of 86 was announced following a brief battle with Alzheimer's disease. His death was confirmed in an Instagram statement that described his final moments as being surrounded by family and friends.
In October 2023, Patrick Stewart spoke candidly about his parenting regrets in an interview with the Irish Independent. He admitted to having a "practically non-existent relationship" with his children, Daniel and Sophie, attributing it to his dedication to his acting career. "There’s not a day that goes by that I’m not pained by the memory of my children, who they were and by a sense of responsibility that they became who they are in part because of me and my influence or lack of influence on them," he told the outlet.
Stewart acknowledged that he had not been the father he aspired to be, stating, "I was just obsessed with my work and everything else took second place." He expressed relief that his children, now in their 50s, seemed to have forgiven him. He also mentioned an effort to improve his relationship with his grandchildren.
Patrick Stewart was married to Sheila Falconer from 1966 to 1990. He later married Wendy Neuss from 2000 to 2003 before marrying his current wife, Sunny Ozell, in 2013. In addition to Daniel, he is survived by his daughter, Sophie.
