Irish authorities are proceeding with plans to extradite Daniel Kinahan, identified as an alleged leader of the Kinahan organised crime group, from Dubai back to Ireland. Kinahan, in his late 40s, was arrested in the United Arab Emirates in April following an arrest warrant issued by Irish courts concerning alleged serious organized crime offenses.

Preparations for his extradition are intensifying after Kinahan reportedly concluded legal efforts in Dubai aimed at preventing his return. Sources within Irish authorities have indicated that while the legal process may be complete, a definitive timeline for his transportation to Ireland has not yet been established. Several diplomatic steps remain necessary to formalize the extradition process.

Kinahan's arrest was executed under a bilateral extradition agreement between Ireland and the UAE. The High Court in Dublin has previously identified Kinahan, who has resided in the UAE, as a senior figure within an organized crime syndicate involved in international drug trafficking and firearms offenses.

The Kinahan cartel was notably engaged in a feud with the rival Hutch crime gang in Ireland, a conflict that began in 2015 and resulted in numerous fatalities. An attempt on Daniel Kinahan's life occurred in 2016 at a boxing weigh-in event at the Regency Hotel in Dublin.

In 2022, U.S. authorities announced a reward of up to five million dollars for information leading to Kinahan's arrest. An Garda Síochána (Irish police) has stated its commitment to pursuing individuals allegedly involved in serious organized criminal activity internationally. The Gardaí highlighted the importance of their partnerships with authorities in the United Arab Emirates, including judicial and police-to-police cooperation, supported by the Irish Government departments of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, and Foreign Affairs.
