Dani Dyer Won't Dance to X-Rated Football Chant on 'Strictly'
The 'Strictly Come Dancing' contestant stated that the popular West Ham fan chant about her and footballer husband Jarrod Bowen would need to be altered to be broadcastable.
Dani Dyer, a contestant on the latest season of 'Strictly Come Dancing,' has indicated that the explicit fan chant celebrating her relationship with West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen will not be performed on the show in its original form. The chant, set to the tune of Gala's 1996 hit "Freed From Desire," includes a sexually explicit line referring to Dyer.
Dyer commented that while the idea of dancing to the song on "Strictly" would be entertaining, the lyrics would likely need modification for broadcast. "Imagine! They wouldn't be able to play that. Unless they say 'kissing Dani Dyer.' Then maybe they could," she told The Mail on Sunday.
Her professional dance partner, Nikita Kuzmin, echoed this sentiment, stating, "As much as we would love to, with the chant included, we probably couldn't. What a shame!"
Dyer's son, Santiago, has already created a family-friendly version, singing "Bowen's on fire and he's kissing Dani Dyer," which Dyer shared she has heard from the back seat of her car.
Despite the family-friendly adaptations, Dyer's father, actor Danny Dyer, has previously defended the original chant as a compliment. He was filmed singing the explicit version during a West Ham FA Cup game with his grandson present, though he altered the lyrics at Dyer and Bowen's wedding to "married Dani Dyer."
Bowen, an accomplished footballer, was in the audience to support Dyer during a recent "Strictly" performance. Dyer's previous attempt at "Strictly" ended after a fractured ankle during rehearsals, but she stated that her ankle is currently fine. She and Bowen are taking precautions, with Bowen reportedly assisting with her recovery by providing an ice machine for at-home treatment.
Dyer, who shares twins Summer and Star with Bowen, also addressed the intense family support she has received. When asked if she would prefer to win the glitterball trophy or see her husband lead West Ham back into the Premier League, she declined to answer, stating, "I can't answer that! I'm not doing that."
