Dani Dyer Rules Out Dancing to Controversial West Ham Chant on Strictly
The 'Strictly Come Dancing' contestant stated that the X-rated lyrics about her footballer husband would not be permitted on the BBC show.
Former Love Island contestant Dani Dyer has revealed that she will not be dancing to the popular West Ham chant about her relationship with footballer husband Jarrod Bowen on 'Strictly Come Dancing.' The chant, sung to the tune of Gala's 1996 hit 'Freed From Desire,' includes an explicit lyric about Dyer.
When asked about the possibility of performing the song, Dyer told The Mail on Sunday, "Imagine! They wouldn't be able to play that. Unless they say 'kissing Dani Dyer'. Then maybe they could." Her professional dance partner, Nikita Kuzmin, echoed this sentiment, stating, "As much as we would love to, with the chant included, we probably couldn't. What a shame!"
Dyer shared that her son has already created a family-friendly version, singing "Bowen's on fire and he's kissing Dani Dyer." However, her father, actor Danny Dyer, has defended the original lyrics, viewing them as a compliment.
"I think there's a bit of romance in it," Danny Dyer said. "Think about it, it's a compliment. They are saying Bowen is on fire, which is unreal, and he's also s******* Dani Dyer. They're saying it can't get any better."
He was previously filmed singing the original chant at a West Ham game with his grandson, Santiago, in his arms. However, he adapted the lyrics for Dani and Jarrod's wedding, leading guests in a chorus about the footballer having "married Dani Dyer."
Bowen, the captain of West Ham, was present in the studio audience to watch Dyer's performance. She danced a foxtrot to "Beauty And The Beast," earning 22 points for her routine. This follows her debut performance last weekend, a samba to Zara Larsson's "Lush Life."
Dyer's return to 'Strictly' comes a year after her previous attempt was cut short due to a fractured ankle. She confirmed her ankle is currently fine and that she and Kuzmin are taking precautions, including strapping the joint and regular exercises. Bowen has reportedly been involved in her recovery at home, acquiring an ice machine for her use.
Dyer, who has three-year-old twins with Bowen, stated that her family has been supportive of her return to the show. When asked to choose between winning the 'Strictly' glitterball trophy and seeing West Ham promoted to the Premier League, she declined to answer, saying, "I can't answer that! I'm not doing that."
