Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, known for their roles on "Dancing With the Stars," have relocated from Los Angeles to Boca Raton, Florida. The couple, who have three young sons, documented their emotional departure in a YouTube video posted Monday.
Murgatroyd, 39, and Chmerkovskiy, 46, shared a video on Instagram showing them in tears in their car, surrounded by moving boxes. "There are tears you don’t expect, goodbyes that hit harder than you imagined, and moments where you wonder if you’re making the right decision," Murgatroyd wrote on social media. She added that she believed the move was "the best decision" for their family, emphasizing that their sons are happy and their hearts are full as they begin this new chapter.
Murgatroyd described their new life in Florida as bringing "happiness, a slower pace, the sunshine," and seeing their children "love every second of it," which she stated was "everything we hoped for and more."
In the YouTube video, Murgatroyd became emotional while viewing their emptied Los Angeles home after 16 years. "It’s been a fun ride, LA," she said. "But we have to move on to new things, new life and new adventures, and make new memories."
The move was not without incident. Murgatroyd reported that her eldest son Shai’s bike was stolen. She suspects a homeless woman, whom they had assisted the day before by giving her food and blankets, may have taken it. The woman, who reportedly stated she was from Georgia, appeared to be in her early 20s. "We went through our fridge," Chmerkovskiy commented off-camera regarding their assistance to the woman. Murgatroyd expressed dismay, noting that their garage door had been open, allowing the woman to see the contents.
Murgatroyd and Chmerkovskiy have been married since July 2017 and welcomed all three of their sons, Shai, Rio, and Milan, while living in Los Angeles. The couple received supportive messages from former "DWTS" cast members, including Jenna Johnson, Sharna Burgess, and Carrie Ann Inaba, who praised their courage in embracing new beginnings.
