Jamaican dancehall artist Michael Davey, widely known as Powerman, is seeking justice after his 25-year-old son, Christopher Davey, was fatally stabbed in Brooklyn on Friday. Christopher Davey was reportedly ambushed near his East Flatbush home around 5:30 p.m. as he was on his way to a laundromat for his mother.
“I couldn’t stop crying,” the elder Davey told The Post on Saturday, recalling the moment his ex-wife called him with the news. “My ex-wife, his mother, called me crying. She said, ‘They killed Chris, him dead, him dead.’”
Police stated that Christopher Davey was stabbed twice outside 882 Albany Ave., a few blocks from his residence on Linden Boulevard. Emergency services transported him to Kings County Hospital in critical condition, where he later died. The investigation is ongoing, with police noting that two men were seen fleeing the scene in a dark sedan. One suspect was described as wearing a white tank top and blue jeans, while no description was available for the second individual.
This incident marks the second profound loss for Michael Davey within a short period. In May of the previous year, he lost his 32-year-old stepson. Details surrounding the stepson's death, which occurred while he was working as a trailer mechanic in upstate New York, remain unclear. The father shared that Christopher had been struggling with depression following his brother's death, had quit his job, and spent his days playing video games.
“He was going through a lot of problems,” the elder Davey said. “He had just lost his brother and he went into depression.”
Powerman, who rose to fame in the 1990s and is known for his 1991 hit song “Stone,” expressed a strong desire to see the perpetrators brought to justice. “First and foremost, I’m looking for justice for my son,” he stated. “There has to be some example set. The streets wouldn’t be safe for no one if they think they can walk up and kill people.”
Davey visited the crime scene after learning of his son's death and observed what appeared to be small scissors on the ground, with blood on the sidewalk. A police spokesperson could not confirm if the scissors were the murder weapon. Davey added, “I have to stay strong because I have more kids. I have to stay strong for them and myself.”
