Dan Quinn Addresses Job Security After Commanders' Clock Blunder

Head coach Dan Quinn acknowledged his job security is a topic of discussion following a significant clock management error in the Washington Commanders' overtime tie against the New York Giants. The incident, which occurred in the final seconds of overtime, saw the Commanders unable to run another play after quarterback Jayden Daniels was sacked.

Quinn stated that he has regular, honest conversations with owner Josh Harris about the team's performance and areas for improvement. "That's a normal process for us," Quinn said, according to The Athletic. "And trust me, no one is pleased with this outcome and where we’re at. But the part that we do have, those hard conversations, we’re honest about where we’re at and what we need to fix and what we need to work on. I like having that communication with him."

Despite the ongoing dialogue with ownership, Quinn expressed his frustration with the end-of-game sequence. "I was furious and pissed," he stated, acknowledging that the team has "a lot of s–t to clean up."

The critical mistake happened when Washington regained possession after a fumble by Giants running back Cam Skattebo, advancing into Giants territory. Facing a second-and-8 from the 24-yard line, Daniels was brought down, and the Commanders, without timeouts, could not get back to the line of scrimmage before time expired.

The result of the game, a 27-27 tie, dropped the Commanders' season record to 1-3-1. Quinn's tenure, which began in 2024, now stands at 18-20-1. The team's previous success, including a 12-5 record and an NFC Championship game appearance in his first season, has been overshadowed by recent struggles.
