Dan Aykroyd Recounts Joyride on Stolen Police Motorcycles with Bill Murray
The 'Ghostbusters' star shared a tale of mischief from the set of 'Ghostbusters II,' where he and Bill Murray took police motorcycles for a spin around Central Park.
Dan Aykroyd has shared an anecdote about a late-night escapade with his longtime collaborator Bill Murray, involving stolen police motorcycles and a joyride through New York City's Central Park. The incident occurred during the filming of "Ghostbusters II," which wrapped in 1989.
Aykroyd recounted that he and Murray "appropriated" two fully equipped police motorcycles from the film's motor pool. They then spent about an hour riding the motorcycles around a closed Central Park, utilizing the lights and sirens.
Aykroyd, who posted the story on Instagram in honor of Murray's 76th birthday, quipped that there were "no consequences" for their actions, adding, "After all, we were Ghostbusters."
The two comedians began their careers around the same time, both joining "Saturday Night Live" in the 1970s. Their most notable collaboration came with the original "Ghostbusters" in 1984, followed by "Ghostbusters II" in 1989. They have since reprised their roles in "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" (2021) and "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" (2024), with Aykroyd also appearing in the 2016 reboot.
In recent years, Aykroyd has spoken about his preference for living in his native Canada, spending less time in Los Angeles. He told podcast host Adam Carolla in 2023 that he drives cautiously in Los Angeles and stays indoors during late-night hours.
