Broadcaster Dame Jenni Murray died eight days after being involved in a car crash in north London, an inquest has been told. The collision occurred near Hampstead Heath around 7:45 p.m. GMT, when Dame Jenni was driving and was dazzled by oncoming headlights, causing her to collide with two stationary vehicles.
An inquest determined that the cause of her death was bronchopneumonia, which developed as a complication of fractures to her ribs and sternum sustained in the crash. Following the collision, Dame Jenni was unable to recall events and exited her vehicle independently before being taken to the Royal Free Hospital on March 4.
She was initially placed on non-invasive ventilation and later moved to intensive care. The Metropolitan Police investigated the incident but closed their investigation with no further action. Dame Jenni, who was the longest-serving presenter of BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour, died on March 12.
