Dakota Johnson Thriller 'Verity' Tops Box Office
The psycho-sexual thriller, based on Colleen Hoover's novel, earned over $62 million in its opening weekend.

The film "Verity," starring Dakota Johnson and Anne Hathaway, has claimed the top spot at the weekend box office, grossing over $62 million globally. Directed by Michael Showalter and written by Nick Antosca, the movie is an adaptation of Colleen Hoover's 2018 novel of the same name.
The plot centers on Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson), a struggling writer hired by Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett) to complete the final books in a series by his wife, Verity Crawford (Hathaway), a bestselling author who has become incapacitated. While ghostwriting, Lowen uncovers disturbing secrets about the couple.
"Verity" opened with an estimated $40 million production budget and has already recouped its costs. The film is currently playing exclusively in theaters, and its digital release and streaming debut are anticipated in the coming weeks.
While an exact theatrical run length is not yet confirmed, industry observers estimate "Verity" could remain in cinemas for at least four weeks, depending on audience demand and the release of competing titles in October 2026. Amazon MGM Studios, the film's distributor, has had varying theatrical run times for its previous releases, ranging from an average of 3.6 weeks to over 8.2 weeks.
The movie is expected to be available for digital purchase or rent around early November 2026. Streaming availability on Amazon Prime Video has not been announced, but similar Amazon MGM titles have appeared on the platform between seven weeks and three months after their theatrical debut. This suggests a potential streaming release for "Verity" in mid-to-late November or possibly as late as December or January.
