Dakota Johnson Sparks Fan Outrage Over Knicks Star OG Anunoby Comments
Actress Dakota Johnson expressed disbelief over the existence of NBA player OG Anunoby, leading to backlash from New York Knicks fans.
Actress Dakota Johnson has drawn the ire of New York Knicks fans after admitting she did not know who their star player, OG Anunoby, was during a promotional appearance. The incident occurred on the web series 'First We Feast' when Johnson, along with co-stars Josh Hartnett and Anne Hathaway, participated in a guessing game.
Hathaway drew a card with Anunoby's name and asked her co-stars to identify him. While Hartnett appeared unfamiliar, Johnson expressed outright skepticism, exclaiming, "That's not real. You fucking assholes." Hartnett's confusion stemmed from not understanding that "OG" was Anunoby's given name, inferring it meant "original gangster." Hathaway, however, correctly identified Anunoby, citing his pivotal role in the Knicks' recent NBA championship victory.
Hathaway recounted Anunoby's performance in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, where he scored a postseason career-high 33 points and made the game-winning tip-in to secure a crucial victory for the Knicks. The team went on to win the championship, their first since 1973.
While Hathaway received praise from Knicks fans for her knowledge of the team, Johnson faced a barrage of criticism on social media. Fans questioned her awareness, with one commenter stating that the moment transcended sports and should have been widely known. Another fan commented on the perceived disconnect from reality among celebrities, while Hathaway was lauded as a "Knicks Queen."
The Knicks are set to begin their title defense on October 20, hosting the Philadelphia 76ers at Madison Square Garden.
