Dakota Johnson Calls Musicians 'Tricky' While Discussing Desire for Children

Dakota Johnson has described musicians as "tricky motherf***ers" in a candid interview with Vogue, while also expressing a strong desire to start a family. The actress, who has been romantically linked to several musicians, including Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and most recently Machine Gun Kelly, shared her reflections on her relationships and personal life.

Johnson, 36, stated that she "really" wants to have children, expressing surprise at her current life stage. "I didn’t expect to be this age and at this place in my life, but for whatever reason, that’s the plan of the universe. So I would love that. I hope that that happens for me," she said. She added that she has "always felt, especially the last few years, that there is a soul that wants to come through."

The experience of working on her upcoming movie, "The Three Incestuous Sisters," was particularly poignant as her co-stars Saoirse Ronan and Jessie Buckley, along with co-producer Ro Donnelly, had their young children with them. "It’s hard to be around my best friends, and even on set, and everyone has their baby, and, you know, starting families, and things turned out differently than I thought. But it's okay. I'm hopeful for that," Johnson remarked.

When asked about her current relationship status, Johnson, known for guarding her privacy, deflected. "I don’t want to say anything about that." She admitted to being "obsessed with people not knowing where I am or what I’m doing" and finding herself "far too porous and sensitive and present."

Recent reports have linked Johnson to Machine Gun Kelly, whose real name is Colson Baker. The pair were seen exiting the same car and entering a New York apartment owned by Taylor Swift. Kelly, also 36, is a father to two daughters. His relationship with Megan Fox ended in November 2025. Johnson's previous long-term relationship was with Chris Martin, the frontman for Coldplay. The Daily Mail confirmed their split in June 2025 after nearly eight years together. Martin shares two children, Apple and Moses, with his ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow. Johnson had maintained an amicable relationship with Paltrow and Martin's children.

Johnson also recalled her past involvement with Matthew Hitt, lead singer of the Drowners, a relationship that began about a decade ago. She was also reportedly linked to indie singer Role Model, whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury, for approximately eight months before claims of their breakup circulated a month ago.
